5 easy steps to making a difference on the 51st World Earth Day!
With World Earth Day fast approaching this month, there’s some easy wins we can all score and make a huge difference to the future of our planet, way of life and communities.
With World Earth Day fast approaching on 22nd April 2021, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. So what exactly is World Earth Day?
Earth Day marks the anniversary of the modern environmental movement, which has just celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, having began in 1970. There are lots of things that people do in order to celebrate it, but all of them involve methods that help to save our planet.
The theme for this year’s Earth Day is Restore Our Earth.
Stuck for some ideas on how to mark this year’s Earth Day? Then read below for some ideas that not only mark the occasion, but activities that you can continue to do to help our planet beyond Earth Day:
1. Electric vehicles
Make the switch to electric vehicles, if you haven’t done so already. Petrol and diesel cars are notoriously bad for the environment. In just one year, one electric car can save up to 1.5 million grams of CO2. So if you’re interested in having a look at electric car options that work best for you, ChargeBound has a wide selection of leases for you to choose from. See more.
2. Second-hand Shopping
With fast fashion being one of the biggest environmental polluters, have you thought about shopping second-hand? Sites like Depop and eBay are not only excellent for finding those second-hand bargains, they can also make you extra cash — and save the environment simultaneously. With up to 20,000 litres of water being used to make one pair of jeans, the switch is a no-brainer.
You can also shop at circular economy focused vendors, where products are designed from the start to be remade. ChargeBound already offers this ourselves for our t-shirt merchandise page where we pay you when it’s time for you to recycle your old EV-inspired t-shirt purchased from us. Check it out.
3. Reusable Cups
We’ve all heard about plastic pollution; images of David Attenborough and the turtle that died from inhaling plastic are permanently etched in our memories. One simple way you can reduce plastic use is to carry a re-usable cup when you buy your morning coffee; you can even get cups that fold up in your bag, to take up less room.
4. Meat Free Mondays
If you’re not already a vegan or vegetarian, it may be difficult to see how you can go meat-free. But how about one day a week? With meat-free Monday soaring in popularity, you’re not only able to try new recipes, but help the planet too. Did you know that meat and dairy account for 14.5% of global greenhouse emissions?
5. Walk
Do you really need to take the car to your local shop that’s a 10-minute walk away? Not only will the walk help to get those steps up on your fitness tracker, but it saves you money on petrol and helps to combat the production of unnecessary fumes that are harmful to the environment. Win-win.
